Description: In 1874, the discovery of gold in the Black Hills of South Dakota led to the establishment of the lawless town of Deadwood. Whiskey played a central role in the lives of the people living there, and many saloons and other businesses thrived. One of the most famous figures from this time was Frontier legend Wild Bill Hickok, who was famously shot dead while playing poker in Deadwood. His hand, which consisted of two aces and two eights, has since become known as the “Deadman’s hand.” The fifth card remains a mystery. We toast to the memory of Bill Hickok and the colorful history of Deadwood.
