Description: Ak Zanj is an aged Agricole rum hailing from Haiti, meticulously sourced and blended by Berling S.A., a venerable family-owned distillery in Port-au-Prince with a heritage tracing back to 1862. The name “Ak Zanj,” which translates from Haitian Creole to ‘With Angels,’ playfully acknowledges the portion lost to evaporation during maturation—attributed to thirsty angels. This rum is distilled from sugarcane juice sourced from the low-yield varietal Madame Mueze, undergoes spontaneous fermentation, and is meticulously distilled in a Creole Column still aged over 60 years. It matures exclusively in ex-Cognac casks for 3 to 7 years, resulting in a delightfully dry profile complemented by notes of honey, candied fruit, hazelnut, and cinnamon, with an ABV of 43%.
